Purpose and Overview

The 14th Annual Student Conference on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice

About the Conference: Rivers of Culture: Flowing Through Diversity

This student-led conference will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 in Corey Union from 9:00 am- 4:30 pm.

This year's theme "Rivers of Culture: Flowing Through Diversity" reflects the ever-evolving and interconnected nature of our identities, experiences, and communities. Just as rivers gather strength by drawing from countless streams, our collective understanding of diversity grows when we come together to share knowledge, challenge assumptions, and celebrate differences. Through this theme, we aim to honor the rich cultural currents that shape our campuses, society, and future.

As a part of our campus mission, we strive to foster an inclusive environment where students are empowered to use their voices to promote awareness, challenge injustice, and drive meaningful change. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a wide array of conference offerings, including scholarly presentations, interactive workshops, and cultural performances--all thoughtfully curated to promote a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding diversity.

In the past, we've proudly welcomed participants from up to 18 institutions who came with their students and faculty/staff to present their outstanding research and diverse expertise. This year, we excitedly invite students to submit abstracts/proposals and present on topics related to the conference theme. We highly encourage participation in any form; whether you plan to submit a proposal or are simply interested in attending to learn more!

Registration will open on September 1, 2025, and close on October 10, 2025.

Please note that registration for student presenters and mentors will not be available until proposal decisions have been announced. This is to ensure a smooth registration process and avoid any potential confusion. That portion of registration will open on the same day proposal decisions are released. Furthermore, thanks to our amazing donors, registration for all SUNY Cortland students and faculty/staff is free!

All proposals must be submitted by September 24, 2025. Notifications of acceptance or denial will be sent by October 3, 2025.

If you plan to participate in meals during the conference, please be sure to indicate any dietary restrictions on your registration form.

f you have any questions or need of support, please do not hesitate to contact  our Program Coordinator, Kyrstin White.
