Areas to note on the planning sheets:
Foreign Language:
- Cortland's foreign language Degree Requirement can exceed the one-course requirement (101 level) for general education. The Degree Requirement focuses on proficiency in the language rather than total credits earned.
- Requirements on the sheet assume that you have no language proficiency and would need to begin at the beginning level I (101). Cortland's sequence is beginning level I and II (101 and 102), then intermediate level I and II (201 and 202).
- You can fulfill the general education requirement (101 level) with:
- 85 or higher on the New York State Regents exam in foreign language
- 85 or higher as a final grade in level 3 of a foreign language in high school
- Successfully completing level 4 or higher of foreign language in high school. * Send your high school transcript as part of your admissions application for verification.
Science, Technology, Values and Society (GEST) is a specific general education requirement to SUNY Cortland, and transfer students are eligible to be waived out of this category with 20 or more transfer credits. Therefore, courses in this GE category are not recommended on the planning sheets.
SUNY Transfer Paths
SUNY has created Transfer Paths that summarize the common lower division requirements at most SUNY campuses for similar majors within most disciplines. If you want to prepare for as many SUNY campuses as possible, the SUNY Transfer Paths will help you identify core coursework that will prepare you for multiple SUNY campuses. Courses that are SUNY Transfer Path courses are noted on the transfer planning sheets in blue.
