Margaret "Peg" Waltman, a keyboard specialist in the SUNY Cortland Registrar's Office, has been honored with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Staff. She received the prestigious award during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center. The award was newly created by SUNY this year and Waltman becomes the first SUNY Cortland recipient.

Pierre R. Gagnon of Clayton, N.Y., will serve as executive director of the Auxiliary Services Corporation (ASC) at SUNY Cortland, the organization announced on May 11. Gagnon, who currently serves as executive director of the Faculty Student Association of Jefferson Community College, begins his duties on June 29.

The SUNY Board of Trustees promoted Joy L. Hendrick, a SUNY Cortland professor of kinesiology, to the rank of Distinguished Service Professor during its May 12 meeting in Fort Schuyler, N.Y

Eight senior physical education majors at SUNY Cortland were recognized with Lenore K. Alway/Anthony P. Tesori Awards for their outstanding work in student teaching in New York state schools during the Spring 2009 semester.

SUNY Distinguished Professor Timothy Baroni, a professor of biological sciences at SUNY Cortland, will receive the Mycological Society of America (MSA)'s highest honor, the 2009 MSA Distinguished Mycologist Award. Baroni, whose specialty is the study of systematics of macrofungi, will be honored during the MSA Annual Meeting from July 25-29, to be held jointly this year in Snowbird, Utah with the Botanical Society of America, the American Fern Society, the American Bryological and Lichenological Society and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists.

Bonni Hodges, a professor of health at SUNY Cortland, will receive a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center.

JoEllen Bailey, an associate professor of physical education at SUNY Cortland, will receive a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center.

Jeffrey A. Bauer, an associate professor of kinesiology at SUNY Cortland, will receive a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center.

Kathleen Lawrence, an associate professor of communication studies at SUNY Cortland, will receive a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center.

Billie Jean Goff, a senior counselor at SUNY Cortland, will receive a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service during the 2009 Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 16, in the Park Center.
