Students receive many types of notetaking accommodations, including use of a preferred notetaking device and audio recording. This page lists some of the common notetaking technologies supported by the Disability Resources Office. Guidance, training, and support for notetaking technology is available to all students affiliated with the Disability Resources Office.
To request an appointment for access technology training:
- Call 607-753-2967
- Or use the appointments feature in AccessCortland.
Notetaking and Audio Recording with Microsoft OneNote
With Microsoft OneNote, you can synchronize your typed notes with an audio recording. You can also add slides to your notebook and take photos of the board or documents. Be sure to download the OneNote application from myRedDragon onto your laptop. The web-based app in your browser or the mobile app will not sync notes with an audio recording.
Voice Memos for Mac, iPad, and iPhone
The Voice Memos app on current Apple products allows you to record audio, follow along with a live text transcript, and review the transcript later.
Voice Recorder on Android
Most Android devices include a built-in voice recorder. Search your app drawer for “Recorder”.
- Many Google Pixel phones use Google’s Recorder app, which can also transcribe recordings.
- Other phones will have a different app such as Samsung Voice Recorder, Recorder, or Voice Recorder.
Notability
The Notability note-taking and recording app is available at no cost to all SUNY Cortland students by signing up with a cortland.edu email address. The Disability Resources office will loan an iPad and stylus to students who need them for their accommodation(s).
Jamworks Notetaking App
The Disability Resources Office reserves a limited number of Jamworks licenses for students. These are usually provided to students whose notetaking preferences best match the user experience in Jamworks.
Livescribe Pens
The Disability Resources office maintains Livescribe Echo 2 and Symphony pens, which are available by request for students with audio recording accommodations.
