Join SUNY Cortland at the New York State Fair

08/23/2012

SUNY Cortland students and alumni who go to the New York State Fair this weekend should be sure to wear their College colors. They could end up winning a pair of tickets to a New York Jets game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The College will exhibit at the Fair on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, and again next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 2.

Students and alumni are encouraged to wear clothing items emblazoned with SUNY Cortland’s logo when they visit the Fair and stop by the College’s booth on Chevy Court. People staffing the exhibit will take your photo and post it online in a special gallery of SUNY Cortland fairgoers.

Anyone who stops by the SUNY Cortland exhibit, which showcases some of the exciting and challenging educational experiences offered by the College, can leave wearing a free pair of SUNY Cortland sunglasses.

And, students and alumni who stop by this week, on Aug. 24 or 25, will be able to enter their names in a raffle to win a pair of Jets tickets. The tickets are a benefit of SUNY Cortland’s partnership with the NFL team, which holds its summer training camp on the College campus.

The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday, Aug. 29, so any alumni interested in a FREE chance to win tickets to a professional football game should visit the SUNY Cortland  display during its first weekend at the Fair.

You don’t need to go to the Fair to get raffle tickets. Fans can buy them by completing the New York Jets Registration Form available through the alumni section of the College website, www2.cortland.edu. Each raffle ticket costs $5, but you can get five for $15 or 10 for $25. Two pairs of tickets will be given away for each regular-season home game, so ticket holders have 16 chances to win.

SUNY Cortland’s display will be under the State University of New York’s expanded exhibit tent on Chevy Court. The tent is prominently located on Chevy Court, next to the Dairy Products Building, one of the most popular areas of the Fairgrounds.

While prospective students and their parents will have an opportunity to learn about SUNY Cortland, alumni are encouraged to use their alma mater’s exhibit as a friendly outpost at the Fair. Under the tent, they can get some shade, reconnect with the College, meet fellow alumni or current students or establish a convenient meeting spot for your group right next to the free concerts in Chevy Court.

To learn what musical acts will be performing on Chevy Court on the days SUNY Cortland will be at the Fair, go to the Fair’s official Website: www.nysfair.org.

Fans of the Fair — New York state’s largest annual event — might want to consider volunteering for a shift at the booth. The College is still looking for volunteers to help staff the exhibit on Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2.  It’s an opportunity to spend a few hours hanging out and talking about the College in exchange for a free Fair admission pass, a SUNY Cortland t-shirt and hat combo and — of course — red SUNY Cortland sunglasses.

To volunteer, contact Public Relations Director Fred Pierce at (607) 753-2232 or frederic.pierce@cortland.edu.
