07/09/2009

Pierre R. Gagnon of Clayton, N.Y., joined the Auxiliary Services Corporation (ASC) at SUNY Cortland on June 29, the organization announced.

Gagnon previously served as executive director of the Faculty Student Association of Jefferson Community College. He replaces Dana Wavle, who left in January after 13 years of service to the College community to become the vice chancellor of administration and finance at Indiana University Southeast.

Michelle K. Brackin, who served as the interim executive director of ASC, is the assistant executive director.

Founded more than 50 years ago, ASC is a campus-based, not-for-profit organization providing dining services, vending, campus stores, student ID cards and other essential services to the campus community. ASC strives to promote the quality of student life and support the educational goals and mission of the College.

The organization employs approximately 425 full- and part-time workers, including many students, and is the largest employer of students on campus. A board of directors composed of students, faculty and administrators governs the corporation.

Gagnon’s responsibilities include organizing, evaluating and directing the ASC business affairs, including administrative, fiscal, operational, long-range planning and personnel management.

Gagnon served Jefferson Community College since 1994. He was the chief executive officer overseeing all aspects of operation and management of the private, not-for-profit Faculty Student Association that provides auxiliary services to Jefferson Community College. In that position, he was responsible for the bookstore, food service, day care and campus debit card administration.

Since 1995, Gagnon served as an adjunct instructor at Jefferson Community College, teaching courses in business and science.

From 1990-2000, he owned Spartan Consulting, which provided commercial and custom database development services to approximately 35 clients throughout New York state. From 1990-94, he was a grant and contract administrator at Clarkson University. He administered 200-250 active research grants and contracts received from federal, state and private sponsors accounting for more than $9 million in annual sponsorship. He worked as a recycling coordinator at the St. Lawrence (N.Y.) County Solid Waste Authority in Ogdensburg, N.Y., from 1989-90. From 1982-89, Gagnon was director of respiratory care services at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. He began his career in 1979 as a staff therapist at Hepburn Hospital, performing routine and advanced respiratory care procedures.

Born and raised in Ogdensburg, N.Y., Gagnon holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Potsdam College and a master’s degree in business administration from Clarkson University. He is certified in respiratory therapy from California College for Health Sciences in San Diego, Calif., and has a certificate in financial planning from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colo.

A member of SUNY Auxiliary Services Association, Gagnon is a chair of the Finance Council at St. Mary’s Parish. Since 2006, he has served as team leader for the Jefferson Community College Habitat for Humanity.
