Three faith leaders — Christian, Muslim and Jewish — will offer a “A Dialogue with Three Brothers” on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Presented by the local Interfaith Association, the Zoom discussion at 2 p.m. is free and open to the public. Reservations are required for participation in the event.
The dialogue initially will allow each of the religious representatives to share his own faith history. The three — Mohamed Khater, Rev. Jim Kerr-Whitt and Jim Brulé — then will talk about how much their spiritual lives have been enriched and deepened because of the interfaith dialogues in which they have participated.
The Zoom meeting participants then will be invited to ask questions and to interact with the presenters.
Here’s a little more about the three interfaith speakers:
- Mohamed Khater, the (now-retired) president of the Islamic Society of Central New York. A member of Interfaith Works’ Round Table of Faith Leaders for many years, Khater is a highly respected leader in both the Islamic and Interfaith communities.
- Jim Kerr-Whitt has served four American Baptist Church pastorates from 1976 to 2015. After 24 years of ministry with the North Manlius (N.Y.) United Church, Kerr-Whitt completed his vocation as a pastoral minister in 2015. He is now attending the First Baptist Church of Syracuse in Jamesville, N.Y. Kerr-Whitt also recently completed a six-year term as the American Baptist Churches’ representative to InterFaith Works’ Round Table of Faith Leaders. He supports InterFaith Works in a number of volunteer capacities.
- Jim Brulé is a Maggid: an ordained spiritual storyteller and teacher in the Jewish tradition serving the Syracuse, N.Y., area. His passion is for transformational storytelling, which is stories that invite and provoke deep, spiritual changes in our lives. Brulé delights in exploring and telling stories from a variety of traditions without ever losing his Jewish foundations.
