Stephen J. Hunt, a member of the SUNY Board of Trustees, will give the keynote address on Thursday, Nov. 12, as part of SUNY Cortland’s “Fire It Up: Lead the Way to Change” Leadership Conference.

The Taikoza drum group will offer the thunderous rhythms of ancestral Japanese Taiko drums and the magical sounds of bamboo flutes during a concert on Thursday, Nov. 12, at SUNY Cortland.

Five guest choirs will raise their voices in praise with the SUNY Cortland Gospel Choir during the 24th African American Gospel Music Festival on Sunday, Nov. 1, at the College.

Catherine Porter, president of the Modern Language Association of America (MLA), an international organization serving English and foreign language teachers, will deliver the keynote address during SUNY Cortland’s first International Education Month, which runs from Tuesday, Oct. 27-Thursday, Nov. 19.

A pair of scientists from SUNY Cortland and Cornell University will give a presentation on how mushrooms, mold and other fungi impact the lives of humans on Thursday, Nov. 5, at SUNY Cortland.

SUNY Cortland, Tompkins Cortland community College and the City of Cortland will hold their Fall 2009 College-Community Forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Main Street SUNY Cortland, 9 Main St. Open to all members of the Cortland community, the forum begins at 7 p.m. and will conclude by 8:30 p.m.

SUNY Cortland kicks off its 2009-10 State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with an 11:30 a.m. luncheon for volunteers in the Corey Union Exhibition Lounge. The campaign, which relies upon state employee volunteers to canvas co-workers for donations, will continue until Monday, Nov. 2.

SUNY Cortland will celebrate the completion of major renovations on one of its residential facilities, Fitzgerald Hall, with a grand reopening ceremony and open house on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. in the building lobby. The ceremony will feature guest speakers for the ribbon cutting followed by a reception and building tours.

Stephen Harris, a certified arborist who represents the company RPM Ecosystems, headquartered in Dryden, N.Y., will hold a seminar on “The Restoration Marketplace” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at SUNY Cortland.

The internationally known philosopher and ethicist Robert Paul Churchill, who specializes in human rights, will discuss “Walls of Oppression: Why the Unjust Cannot Be Happy,” on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at SUNY Cortland.
