CEO's 16th Biennial Research Symposium was held January 12-14, 2024, at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly, Black Mountain, NC, USA. Highlights included the following:
- Over 75 in-person attendees
- Graduate students, faculty, regional K-12 school teachers, environmental and outdoor education center staff, and others gathered for the 3-day symposium.
- Pre-Symposium Session on “Integrating Outdoor Education and Formal Schooling” facilitated by Dr. Jim Sibthorp, University of Utah, and Robert Lubeznik-Warner, American Camp Association
- This pre-conference showcased ways outdoor education has been incorporated into formal schooling, including state-level funding for outdoor and environmental education grants, district-level partnerships, camp-school partnerships, nature-focused schools, and examples from abroad. Discussion focused on learning from present-day examples to expand future outdoor education opportunities accessible to all youth across the nation.

- Panel members represented the North American Association for Environmental Education, Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education, Journal of Experiential Education, and Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education and Leadership.
