Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is available to undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and demonstrate exceptional financial need. Pell Grant grant amount is based on factors like your Student Aid Index, cost of attendance, and enrollment status. The maximum PELL Grant award is $7,395. Award amounts will be prorated for enrollment in less than 12 credit hours. The lifetime limit for a Pell Grant is equivalent to six years of full-time study.

To be eligible for a PELL Grant, you must

  • Meet the basic eligibility criteria for the federal student aid programs;
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form;

    Federal Supplemental Educational Grant (SEOG)

    The Federal Supplemental Educational Grant is available to undergraduate students who are U.S citizens or eligible non-citizens and demonstrate exceptional financial need. SEOG eligibility is typically $400 per year.

    To be eligible for a SEOG Grant, you must

  • Meet meet the basic eligibility criteria for the federal student aid programs;
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form;

    Federal TEACH Grant

    The Federal Teach Grant is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and intend to teach full time in a high-need, low-income school for a minimum of 4 years. The TEACH Grant will revert to a loan if the student does not fulfill service requirements.

    Maximum TEACH awards depend on enrollment status. Be advised that the amounts will be reduced for sequestration. Enrollment in 12+ credit hours maximum award is $3,772 after the reduction of sequestration. Award amounts will be prorated for enrollment in less than 12 credit hours. The cumulative award amount is $16,000 for undergraduate students and $8,000 for Graduate students.

    New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

    New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is available to undergraduates who are New York state residents attending college and have a family taxable income (New York State) of less $125,000 for dependent students; $60,000 for married students with no dependents; $30,000 for independent single students with no dependents.

    The maximum TAP Grant award is $7,070. Award amounts will be prorated for enrollment in less than 12 credit hours. The lifetime limit for a TAP Grant is equivalent to 4 years (8 semesters) of full-time study. EOP student will receive an additional 2 semesters of eligibility.

    • Meet all of the above eligibility requirements:
    • Earn a minimum of 24 credits applicable to degree program in the prior two semesters at SUNY Cortland;
    • Check with your financial aid advisor to verify it is in your best interest to use a extra TAP payment.

    Senator Jose Peralta New York State DREAM Act

    The Senator Jose Peralta NY State DREAM Act gives undocumented and other students access to New York State-administered grants and scholarships that support higher education costs. Your immigration status provided on your application will be held confidential by NY State and SUNY Cortland.

    Senator Jose Peralta grant is based on students enrollment, a family’s income, and maximum award amount is $7,070 per year.

    To be eligible for Senator Jose Peralta NY State DREAM Act, you must:

  • Complete the Senator Jose Peralta NY State DREAM Act Application
  • Complete the NYS Tap Application, each year
  • Meet the citizen/noncitizen eligibility requirements

    Future New Yorker Grant

    The SUNY Cortland Future New Yorker Grant is available provides financial support for students who are charged out-of-state tuition rate. Totaling up to $7,500 for the full academic year ($3,750 per semester). No application is required.

    International Student Grant

    The SUNY Cortland International Student Grant is available to international students to help ease the out-of-state tuition costs. Award amounts are based on enrollment, full time attendance will receive the maximum award of $7,500 per year ($3,750 per semeter). No application is necessary.

    To be eligible for a SUNY Cortland International Student Grant, you must:
    • be admitted to SUNY Cortland in a degree-seeking program
    • be an international student
    • be charged out-of-state tuition rate
    • meet enrollment requirements, undergraduate students must enroll in 12 or more credits each semester
    • Graduate students award amounts will be prorated if enrolled in less than 12 credit hours.
    • not participate in a graduate assistantship (graduate assistants are not eligible for this award)
    • maintain satisfactory academic progress per the university’s published Federal Good Academic Standing guidelines:
