Cortland LSAMP

Support for STEM majors

SUNY Cortland is committed to helping transform STEM education with innovative retention strategies and educational experiences focused on historically underrepresented students.

Funded by a major grant from the National Science Foundation, the university is proud to partner with other Central New York colleges and universities as part of the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program.

Some highlights:

  • The program is open to all first-year and transfer students who identify as African American, Hispanic American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander.

  • Benefits include one-on-one mentoring with faculty; research experience at the university’s outdoor campus; seminars with STEM experts from underrepresented backgrounds; workshops to help excel in the classroom; social events and more.

  • Eight fully-funded research opportunities are available each summer through 2025.

  • Cortland offers more than 10 STEM-related majors. Pre-major students — those who have not yet declared an academic major  also can join the program.

Students should complete the interest form or contact lsamp@cortland.edu with any questions.
