College Hosts Five SUNYAC Tourneys

05/01/2013

There’s no place like home for five SUNY Cortland spring sports teams.

The College hosts State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason championship play in five sports between Wednesday, May 1, and Sunday, May 5.

32 runs for Cortland's baseball
team, which reached the 30-win
mark for the ninth straight
season.

The Red Dragons’ baseball, women’s lacrosse and men’s lacrosse teams earned hosting rights by winning league regular-season titles. In addition, the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will be hosting the SUNYAC Championships Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.

Action starts Wednesday, May 1, when the top-seeded men’s lacrosse team hosts fourth-seeded Potsdam in a conference semifinal game. With a win, the Red Dragons would host either second-seeded Plattsburgh or third-seeded Brockport in the title game Saturday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m. Brockport plays at Plattsburgh in the semifinals Wednesday.

The four-team, double-elimination baseball tournament begins Friday, May 3, when top-seeded Cortland plays fourth-seeded Fredonia at noon and second-seeded New Paltz plays third-seeded Oswego at 3:30 p.m. Three games are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., and the championship round begins Sunday at noon, with another game to follow, if needed.

The women's lacrosse tournament semifinals will be held Friday, May 3, with top-seeded Cortland meeting fourth-seeded Brockport at 12:30 p.m. Second-seeded Fredonia plays third-seeded Geneseo at 3 p.m. If the Cortland men’s lacrosse team reaches the conference finals, the women’s lacrosse winners play for the title Saturday at noon. Otherwise, the women’s lacrosse title game will start at 1 p.m.

The SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex Friday, May 3, beginning at 2 p.m. and Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Cortland’s women are the two-time defending league champion and Cortland’s men won the league crown last spring.
