SUNY Cortland will exhibit “The Best of Student Select 2011” in the Beard Building Gallery at Main Street SUNY Cortland, 9 Main St., starting on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Presented by the College’s student organization Art Exhibition Association (AEA), its Institute for Civic Engagement (ICE) and the gallery, the show runs until Thursday, Oct. 27.

An opening reception will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the gallery.

The reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

“Best of Select” features outstanding original student artworks in all mediums from the last academic year that were exhibited at the Dowd Gallery on the SUNY Cortland campus during May.

Allison Graff, the program director at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, N.Y., juried the “Student Select 2011” exhibition.

“The ‘Best of Select’ is an annual event at the Beard Gallery,” says Megan Morris, president of AEA. “It is an opportunity for Cortland art students to benefit from a wider audience for their work beyond the campus.”

The Beard Building Gallery in historic downtown Cortland is a collaboration between SUNY Cortland, the Cultural Council of Cortland County and the Cortland Downtown Partnership. The gallery is open to visitors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
