SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will visit SUNY Cortland Wednesday, Jan. 30, for the first in a series of regional discussions about shared services among the university system’s 64 campuses.
“Harnessing Systemness: Regional Discussions on Efficiency and Effectiveness” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Corey Union Function Room. Ten SUNY campuses from the Central New York region, including SUNY Cortland, have been invited to the event.
The institutions will share information on achieving operational efficiencies and improving student service through cooperation and collaboration with other campuses. In addition to celebrating successes, the colleges will explore new opportunities for improvement.
“SUNY Cortland is proud to host both Chancellor Zimpher and the first of her planned regional roundtables on shared services,” SUNY Cortland President Erik J. Bitterbaum said. “One of this College’s top priorities is to use its resources as efficiently and effectively as possible. That frequently means working with other institutions to economize, share best practices pursue common goals.”
In addition to SUNY Cortland, representatives are expected from Cayuga Community College, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Onondaga Community College, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Oneonta, Upstate Medical University, Binghamton University, Broome Community College and Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
Since becoming chancellor, one of Zimpher’s primary goals has been to make SUNY’s dozens of independent campuses collaborate more to take advantage of economies of scale. She wants them to work together to have a larger, more coordinated impact on New York’s economy.
Campuses in regions throughout the state worked together to find and develop these types of efficiencies last year. This conference serves to measure their progress and spur the effort on.
