The internationally known philosopher and ethicist Robert Paul Churchill, who specializes in human rights, will discuss “Walls of Oppression: Why the Unjust Cannot Be Happy,” on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at SUNY Cortland.
The lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Sperry Center, Room 205, is free and open to the public.
The talk continues the College’s 2009-10 series of lectures and events around the “Walls” theme. Presented by the Cultural and Intellectual Climate Committee, the series offers a yearlong examination of the walls people build and tear down in their efforts to create community.
Churchill, who serves on the faculty at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., is the author of seven books and numerous articles.
“Students in political science, sociology, economics, history and philosophy will find Churchill’s lecture of particular interest,” said organizer Kathryn Russell, a professor and chair of SUNY Cortland's Philosophy Department.
Churchill’s talk is sponsored by the College’s Center for Ethics, Peace and Social Justice; the Philosophy Department; and the Campus Artist and Lecture Series.
