Amy Berg to Direct Information Resources at SUNY Cortland

Amy Berg, director of information technology operations at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, has been appointed associate provost for information resources at SUNY Cortland, effective on Aug. 10.

Reporting to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mark Prus, she replaces Paula Warnken, who will retire on Aug. 27 after 16 years of service to SUNY Cortland.

In the new position, Berg will provide leadership and set strategic direction for all technology and library services at SUNY Cortland. She will work collaboratively to strategically plan, set priorities, develop policies and provide resources to carry out the instructional and administrative goals of the College.

Berg, of Concord, N.H., has 24 years of diversified experience in higher education technology support, architecture, information management, telecommunications, project management, personnel management and recruiting, strategic planning, and fiscal management. During her career, she has collaborated with academic, administrative and technology partners to achieve strategic institutional goals.

She joined Plymouth State in 2007 and has served as interim chief information officer since December 2008. In that capacity, she has provided strategic planning and leadership for all information technology units of the college.

From 1999-2007, she directed telephone and postal services at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She had joined Ball State in 1986, working her way up the ranks in the Telephone and Postal Services Department from systems coordinator to assistant director to director. During that time, she planned, designed and managed the university's voice systems and department's data systems and served as project manager for telecommunications implementations. In 1999, Ball State presented her with its Business Affairs Meritorious Service Award.

Berg is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the American and College and University Telecommunications Association, Educause, the International Alliance of Avaya Users, Northeast Regional Computing Program, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. She has served on many University of the State of New Hampshire committees and Plymouth State University committees.

A native of Muncie, Ind., she earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Science in Information and Communication Science from Ball State University. Berg also is a graduate of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) Management Institute.
