'Student Select 09' Art Exhibit Through May 16 in Dowd Gallery

05/03/2009

"Student Select 09," a SUNY Cortland exhibition of student art, opens on Friday, May 1, in the Dowd Gallery at SUNY Cortland.

The exhibition opening takes place between 4-6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The show runs through Saturday, May 16. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment. Group tours are also available. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The juried exhibition features 28 artists with 53 artworks in ceramics, video, interactive art, painting, sculpture, photography, fibers and design. Chris Wildrick, an artist from Syracuse, N.Y., selected the art on display.

"The student exhibitions have always been a great exponent of the variation offered by the Art and Art History Department and the talent that thrives within it," said Gallery Director Andrew Mount. "This year, we are exhibiting some artists who have shown in this slot before and some first-year students. There are even students within the show who are not art majors - a fact that pays tribute to the quality of the faculty at Cortland."

The students featured in this year's show are as follows:

Ashley Bouchard of Clayton, N.Y., Brian Roach of Greene, N.Y., Casey Henry of Wellsville, N.Y., Christine Brown of Montauk, N.Y., Cynthia Teeter of Freeville, N.Y., Dana Zaccaro of Thiells, N.Y., Darla McGrath of Lisle, N.Y., Elizabeth Milana of Lindenhurst, N.Y., Elizabeth Robertson of Horseheads, N.Y., Gina Smith of East Meadow, N.Y., Heather Lohr of Commack, N.Y., Jason Saunders of Latham, N.Y., Jess Cabrera of Central Islip, N.Y., Jessica Soulier of Hancock, N.Y., Jieun Kim of Seoul, Korea, Kathryn Thiel of Baldwin, N.Y., Katy Rendinaro of Morrisonville, N.Y., Kelly Villa of Amherst, N.Y., Ken Little of Ballston Lake, N.Y., Kyle O'Brien of Monroe, N.Y., Leah Fries of Red Creek, N.Y., MacKenzie Winne of Oneonta, N.Y., Marina Carlstein of Binghamton, N.Y., Megan Crawley of Lynbrook, N.Y., Patricia Axford of Tully, N.Y., Shondale Jones of Bronx, N.Y., Stefani Caporlingua of Monroe, N.Y., Tiffany Ward of Newark Valley, N.Y., Victoria Palmiotto of Albion, N.Y., and Xena Holzapfel of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
