Saturday’s necessary repair to the power supply on the middle part of campus will block access to on-campus Time Warner cable television from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The planned cable access power loss will affect all buildings from the Cornish and Van Hoesen halls down to the Stadium Complex. All residence halls located between those facilities will not have cable access during those hours.
The affected buildings include: Alger Hall, Bishop Hall, Casey Tower, Clark Hall, Cornish Hall, Education Building, Fitzgerald Hall, Glass Tower Hall, Hayes Hall, Hendrick Hall, Higgins Hall, Neubig Hall, Park Center, Professional Studies Building, Randall Hall, Shea Hall, Smith Tower, the Stadium Complex, Van Hoesen Hall and Whitaker Hall.
Members of the campus community who wish to view television programs during those times are encouraged to find other locations.
The reason for the outage is that the central location for the campus cable system serving the buildings, Van Hoesen Hall, will not have power during the shutdown. Work must be done on Saturday to repair a high-voltage line that malfunctioned on Monday and caused a small explosion in an underground electrical vault in front of Clark Hall.
The College administration regrets any inconvenience this may cause for the sake of restoring power to all campus buildings.
The College continues to plan the complete power shutdown during that same timeframe of Clark, Fitzgerald, Hayes, Hendrick, Randall and Whitaker residence halls, as well as Neubig Hall, Cornish and Van Hoesen halls and the Education Building. During the shutdown, all six residence halls will be open and can be occupied by the students and staff, while Neubig and the lecture halls affected are closed and off limits.
Students should plan around the full power outage accordingly. The Memorial Library, Corey Union and the Interfaith Center will be open for students during the power shutdown. All three locations have Internet access.
Neubig will be closed for breakfast and lunch Saturday and will reopen at 5 p.m. for dinner.
Breakfast will instead be available in Dragon’s Court in Corey Union from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday. Dragon’s Court will serve lunch and dinner from noon until 8 p.m. Raquette Pizza will open at 11 a.m.
The Tomik Fitness Facility in Van Hoesen Hall is open on a revised schedule Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. During the period that Tomik is closed, the campus community is encouraged to make use of the Woods Fitness Facility in the Park Center, which will be open that day for regular hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“Paint, Paint, Paint,” the Children’s Museum program set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in the SUNY Cortland Child Care Center, located in the Education Building, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Other Children's Museum events scheduled for this semester will take place.
