Exhibition Information

HOMEFRONT and other works by Sarah McCoubrey
August 31-October 15, 2015

This exhibition features artwork by Syracuse-based artist Sarah McCoubrey, who is currently in Brussels on sabbatical leave from Syracuse University. Her newest body of work, entitled Homefront, consists of gouache paintings on butter wrappers and paper and explores the consequences of war through the devices of lace and landscape.  These pieces were greatly influenced by her experiences in Belgium, a country renowned for its lace industry, where the centennial commemoration of World War I is underway.
Earlier works included in the show gracefully combine the realistic with the fantastical and address human intervention in the natural world, which has been a theme of ongoing interest for McCoubrey.  These pieces focus on damage to the environment, specifically in the central New York region, and comprise digital prints layered with mixed media, gouache and ink drawings, and a mixed media lightbox.
