Tadayuki Suzuki
Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, had a blog articled titled “Reading When Aidan Became a Brother with elementary students” published by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in July. Also, he co-authored the article “Children’s Book Reviews: “Less-known” Award Winning Books,” which was published in the combined Fall 2019-Spring 2020 issue of The Dragon Lode, a journal published by the Children's Literature and Reading Special Interest Group of the International Reading Association.
Evan Faulkenbury
Evan Faulkenbury, History Department, had an article published in the peer-reviewed journal The Public Historian. “A Problem of Visibility: Remembering and Forgetting the Civil War in Cortland, New York” is about the history of Cortland’s Union soldier monument that stands downtown in Courthouse Park. A photograph from its 1877 dedication ceremony was featured on the cover of the journal.
Kim Wieczorek
Kim Wieczorek, Childhood/Early Childhood Department, attended the Association of Teacher Educators' conference in Atlanta in February as a representative to the Council for Unit Presidents and to the Delegate Assembly in her role as president of the New York State Association of Teacher Educators. At the conference, she presented a roundtable titled “Press Play and Repeat: Identifying and Documenting a Repertoire of Skills and Dispositions for Preservice Candidates in a Professional Development School Context.”
Richard Kendrick
Richard Kendrick, Institute for Civic Engagement and Sociology/Anthropology Department, presented “Where Are Our ‘Habits of the Heart’?” at a conference titled “Making the Middle East and North Africa Region a Burgeoning Democracy,” held Feb. 25 to 29 in Marrakech, Morocco. Also, he co-led a two-day training session, with Julia Ganson of Syracuse University, on civic education and civic engagement for Moroccan higher education faculty and students. The conference and training were organized by the North-South Center for Social Sciences and sponsored by the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund.
Tiantian Zheng
Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, was panel organizer of “Continuity and Change of East Asia,” and a panel chair and paper presenter of “Sexual Violence and Awareness in Postsocialist China” at the New York Association of Asian Studies annual conference. It was held on Oct. 5 at SUNY New Paltz.

Mark Dodds, Sport Management Department, was the Sport Law session chair at the European Association for Sport Management Conference held Sept. 5 to 8 in Innsbruck, Austria.
Timothy J. Baroni
Timothy J. Baroni, Biological Sciences Department, was invited to lecture and help with mushroom identifications at the Northeast Mycological Foray (NEMF) held in July at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. The annual NEMF meeting drew 250 participants. Baroni’s talk, “Mushrooms with “Pink” Colored Spore Deposits Found in the Northeast,” addressed the diversity and taxonomy of pink-spored mushrooms. Also, Baroni was invited to present the keynote lecture at the 2016 Bill Russell Foray in August, held by the Central Pennsylvania Mycological Club at the Sieg Research Center at Lock Haven University (Pa). He presented “Exploring for Biodiversity of Neotropical Macrofungi: A Glimpse into the Adventures of a Mycologist” to the 50 participants, which included biologists from nearby Pennsylvania State University.
Mechthild Nagel
Mechthild Nagel, Philosophy Department and the Center for Gender and Intercultural Studies (CGIS), delivered a keynote on gender and the law at The Gender Construction of Society Conference held in April at Cantemir University, Bucharest, Romania. It will be published in a special issue of Journal of Research in Gender Studies in 2017.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, spoke on “The Second Amendment and the Hidden History of Gun Laws,” at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, on Nov. 20. The talk was sponsored by the school’s Institute for Legislative Studies.
Maria Timberlake
Maria Timberlake, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had her article, “Recognizing Ableism in Educational Initiatives: Reading between the Lines” published in the June issue of Research in Educational Policy and Management.
